 Aikido Takayama Aikido Takayama

Chief Instructor: Charles Aarons

We are a traditional martial arts dojoPlace of the way; a place for strengthening and refinement body, mind and spirit; training hall that offers training in AikidoThe word "Aikido" is made up of three japanese characters: ai - harmony, ki - spirit, mind, or universal energy, do - the way. Thus Aikido is "the way of harmony with universal energy.". Aikido is a grappling art involving joint locks and throws developed by Morihei UeshibaThe founder of Aikido (dec 14, 1883 - apr 26, 1969), also known as O'sensei (O’SenseiTeacher; anyone who gives guidance along the way; literally "born before", right) in the 1920’s.

Aikido practice is under the direction of chief instructor Charles Aarons and assistant instructor Norine Longmire Aarons. Classes are available for the beginner to advanced – for adults as well as children.

When seeking a martial art teacher, look for someone who inspires and challenges you to step out of your comfort zone – one who supports your growth and development in the art – not one who supports old habits.

Aikido Takayama has been through several transformations since it opened its doors in 1989. As Mission Aikido and the Fraser Valley Aikikai until 2003, Sensei Aarons has been dedicated to bring the art of Aikido to this community for over 20 years. As a proud member of Birankai North America we became Aikido Takayama and in 2008 found a space fully dedicated to the practice of Aikido.

All are welcome.

food for thought

We think we are alive by doing whatever we like to do, with infinite freedom and unlimited creativity inherent in each of us. But actually we are confined and limited by a particular life style, which arises because of our taste and ideas, our habits and self-centered tendencies. We bite at only a certain aspect of life, and cling to it like an insect.
